The Sensible Conservative has never done this before: heap praise upon Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of
the U.S. House of Representatives and a very liberal Democrat.
Her visit to Taiwan, in the twilight of her career, may be
seen someday as its highlight.
Her announcement of a trip to Taiwan at the time did not
seem notable. It was planned as merely a
short visit to an Asian friend among other countries she was scheduled to see
such as Japan and South Korea. China’s
vociferous reaction made the planned trip significant, indeed.
There were reports from the White House that Mrs. Pelosi
was stirring up the proverbial hornets’ nest with a perceived provocation and
should reconsider.
Whether she felt insulted by that position was not revealed,
but the person who is third in line to the American Presidency carried on and
followed through. She stood up for
America – and Taiwan. It was an example
for all national leaders. America sets its own course!
Brava to her!
